MYSL Rules

MYSL Game Rules 
 
Our referees are certified and their officiating is final.  Coaches, players, and parents are not to abuse our referees in any way, shape, or form (physical, verbal, gestures, etc.).  Failure to respect our referees or team officials and players will not be condoned with possible repercussions ranging from warnings to outright expulsion from the league.
 

First game
Please note that the first game is an exhibition practice game and no score will be recorded.  
 
For U5, U6, U7, U8 and U10 

  1. For U5, U6, and U7; all games will be two 20-minute halves with 10 minutes break. For U8 and U10; all games will be two 25 minute halves with only 5 minute break. All games must end on time regardless of when it started.  
  2. Each team will have a maximum of 7 players (including goalie) 
  3. Team that does not have a minimum of 5 players no later than 10 min. after the scheduled game time will forfeit that game.
  4. Indoor soccer rules will apply, that means all free kicks are in-direct kicks and there will be no offside
  5. Teams will be allowed unlimited changes however, referee permission must be obtained before any substituting takes place. Furthermore, for U8 and U10 substituting can only take place on referee's whistle
  6. Coaches for U5, U6, U7 and U8 divisions will be allowed to be on the field with players however, only one coach per team should be on the field other coaches/assistant coaches must stay on the sideline. Coaches and assistants must stay in the designated area of the field and all times No coaches are allowed behind either goals 
  7. A game sheet must be filled by the coach and handed to the referee prior to each game. Coaches are encouraged to have the game sheets for all games pre-filled to avoid the need to fill it out on the field  
  8. It is mandatory that all players must wear a shin-guard in order to be allowed to play any game  
  9. Teams must lineup for a handshake after each game 
  10. Each team will be awarded 3 points for a win, 1 point for a tie, and 0 points for a loss. Teams will be ranked according to total points earned. 
For U12and Older:

1. All games will be two 27-minute halves with 5 minutes break and will be played on full size field. Games must end on time regardless of when it started  

2. Each team will have a maximum of 11 players (including goalie)  

3. Team that does not have a minimum of 7 players no later than 10 min. after the scheduled game time will forfeit that game 

4. Regular soccer rules will apply, that means there will be offside rule as well as direct and in-direct kicks 

5. Coaches must remain on the sideline at all times. No coaches are allowed behind either goals 

6. A game sheet must be filled by the coach and handed to the referee prior to each game. Coaches are encouraged to have the game sheets for all games pre-filled to avoid the need to fill it out on the field  

7. It is mandatory that all players must wear a protective shin-guard in order to be allowed to play any game  

8. Teams must lineup for a handshake after each game 

9. Each team will be awarded 3 points for a win, 1 point for a tie, and 0 points for a loss. Teams will be ranked according to total points earned 

10. Each team must provide a volunteer to work the line to assist the game referee 

Call-up and Other Rules: 

  1. All teams can call-up a maximum of 3 players to play a regular season game only. No call-ups will be allowed during the playoffs 
  2. Called-up player(s) must be registered with MYSL at a YOUNGER age group/division. All call-ups have to be given to the referee before the game 
  3. The coach must give registered players an equal play time on the field at all times  
  4. Except for playoff, Teams must use the maximum number of players up to the maximum players the other team has; i.e. if a team has only 9 players the other team can only play with 9 players. 

 
Playoff

  1. The format of the playoff will be announced prior to the end of season 
  2. Teams are allowed to use the maximum number of players they have regardless of how many the other team has
  3. Penalty kicks will be used to determine winners of all games in case of a tie. There will be no extra time played 
  4. Trophies will be awarded to all teams at the playoff
